Just a short drive north from Phoenix and Scottsdale, Cave Creek is a charming town that’s held onto and celebrates its western history. Here’s a little about Cave Creek, and a list of fun things to do.
The town of Cave Creek was settled in 1870 and incorporated in 1986, and was named for the cave next to the creek it was founded upon. With a population under 6,000 and an elevation at 2,200 feet providing cooler temps than the rest of the Valley, it’s considered a safe, family friendly, and affordable town to live. Although smaller and quieter than its big city neighbors, Cave Creek still has plenty of fun stuff to do. Below are some attractions and places you need to check out when in town.
Cave Creek Regional Park
If you’re looking for fresh air and exercise with cooler temps, Cave Creek Regional Park is the place for you! At 3,000 acres and an elevation that varies between 2,000 and 3,000 feet, this park is perfect for hiking, mountain biking, riding horses, or even a leisurely stroll. Popular trails are the six mile Go John Trail and the shorter Slater Trail. Either way, you’ll take in amazing views.
Golf
There are several scenic golf courses to choose from, both public and private. Public courses include Rancho Manana, Legend Trails and Dove Valley Ranch. The private resort courses are The Boulders, Desert Forest and Tatum Ranch Golf Clubs – we suggest making a day of it with a spa visit or dinner at one of the fabulous restaurants in town!
Frontier Town
This recreation of a wild west town is not only a huge tourist attraction, but a destination for locals too. With shops selling jewelry, clothing and all kinds of fun souvenirs, restaurants within walking distance, and great photo opportunities, Frontier Town has something for everyone.
Local Eats
Here are a few of our favorite Cave Creek restaurants: If you’re looking for an authentic wild west saloon type of aesthetic, Harold’s Cave Creek Corral and The Horny Toad are the places to go. For amazing Mexican food in a cantina style atmosphere, we recommend El Encanto. Make sure to get a table near the pond for some very entertaining duck watching!
Those who live in Cave Creek love the quieter pace of life, fresh and clean air, lush desert landscape, and small-town charm. Because it’s such a desirable place to live, real estate here goes fast.
