A recent analysis conducted by Wallet Hub ranked the top 25 American cities to retire in, and two Phoenix metro area cities made the list! Tempe took the 16th spot, and Scottsdale came in at number two.
Wallet Hub Analysis of the Best Cities to Retire In
The analysis of 180 cities examined factors affecting affordability, quality of life, activities and healthcare, providing options for each with a maximum score of 100. Top point earners were ranked accordingly, and acknowledged as the best cities to retire in. Included in the affordability and quality of life consideration was the ability to travel conveniently and affordably by air, which is something The Cusick Group believes seniors considering retirement often forget. Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is a hub for both Southwest and American Airlines, making it incredibly easy to fly direct (non-stop) to most major U.S. cities.
16th Best City to Retire to- Tempe, Arizona
Tempe, Arizona scored 55 out of the 100 possible points. The analysis conducted by Wallet Hub gave the high rating due to Tempe’s recreational activities- fishing, kayaking, hiking and biking- as well as cultural activities- food festivals, performances, and museums.
2nd Best City to Retire to- Scottsdale, Arizona
The second Arizona city to rank on Wallet Hub’s analysis was Scottsdale, Arizona which ranked second overall. Scoring a 59.87 out of 100 points, mild weather and low taxes were big contributors to the city’s high score. In addition to the weather and taxes, Scottsdale offers many other retirement “bonuses” including two Mayo Clinic campuses, multiple Honor Health campuses, and many special attractions. Tampa, Florida scored 59.93 out of the 100 point maximum, ranking number one overall and beating Scottsdale, Arizona by only .06 points.
