However, what do you do if you rent? While some landlords may approve a new coat of paint, we have rounded up tips for redesigning your kitchen – rental approved!
Update the backsplash.
There are several things you can do to make that bare space between counter and cabinet your own. Use tile stickers if there are ugly tiles, or use velcro to attach a cloth backsplash (which you can always wash and reattach). Head to your local hardware store, or online, and you will find several options for easy, removable backsplash.
Line your drawers. Let’s face it, sometimes in the insides of drawers have seen better days. An easy way to overcome this slightly not-so-clean problem is to line your drawers and cabinets with a pattern you like. Contact paper is traditional (and easiest to find), but if you don’t want to worry about it leaving adhesive behind, think about using oilcloth or another thick fabric that can just lay in the bottom of your drawers.
Color the Fridge. Dingy old, white refrigerator bumming you out? Mix it up! Cover the fridge with removable wallpaper. Pick out the color and pattern that you love the most, and add that baby to the fridge! Measure twice, cut once and then peel and stick your way to a more appetizing fridge.
Color Coordinate Everything. Looking for a space that screams “everything is so put together”? Color coordinate your appliances! Whatever household appliances you have out on the counter, think stand mixer, toaster, coffee maker, etc., get them in matching or coordinating colors. This will give your kitchen a seamless look, the envy of all who dines over.
Accessorize the place. Just because it is your rental home, does not mean that you can’t decorate like it’s the forever place! Add custom-esque furniture to the space, like that gorgeous bar cart you found at the last Junk in the Trunk, add rugs, plants, paintings – you name it! This is your home for the next agreed upon months, or longer. Add that painting you found that matches your color scheme perfectly. Throw in fun kitchen towels that POP. Whatever you do, make it yours
